CHRISTOPHER THOMAS Director of Theatre Christopher Thomas received his Bachelor’s degree in English, Speech, & Theatre Education from Augustana College and finished his Master’s degree in Theatre with a focus on directing from Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. Before joining the Libertyville staff, Mr. Thomas taught English, Speech, & Theatre at Moline High School in Moline, Illinois. There, he directed musicals, plays, & one acts, produced an annual dinner theatre, and served as head coach of Encore!, their competitive speech team. Mr. Thomas is a new faculty member at LHS. His responsibilities include serving as the Director of the Libertyville High School Theatre program, which includes directing the Fall Musical, Spring Play, and (occasionally) the Freshman/Sophomore Play. Additionally, he oversees the Student Directed One Acts, Thespians, and Stageplayers. Recently, Mr. Thomas has directed multiple award winning Performance in the Rounds, including winning back-to-back IHSA State Championships for their performances in 2012 and 2013. His students have also placed 2nd place (PIR & Original Oratory) and 3rd place (Prose) in past IHSA State Speech Competitions. Furthermore, Mr. Thomas has had the pleasure of having his theatrical productions selected to perform at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival. Mr. Thomas is an active performer & director, having performed many lead and supporting roles in community theaters–his favorite performances include playing opposite his wife as Harold Hill to her Marion (Music Man) and the Baker to her Cinderella (Into the Woods). Mr. Thomas has also directed productions for Opera Quad Cities and the Genesius Guild of Rock Island, Illinois. A highlight of his career includes collaborating with the Actors Gymnasium of Evanston, IL on his high-flying adaptation of Charlotte’s Web. Professionally, Mr. Thomas continues to serve on the Executive Board for the Illinois High School Theatre Festival as Associate Director of Workshops (2014 & 2015). He is also a responder for IHSTF Play Selection and a frequent judge at the IHSA State Drama Contest for both Drama and Group Interp. Additionally, Mr. Thomas is a Lifetime member of the Illinois Theatre Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He lives in Chicagoland with his wife, Erika (a private voice teacher), and their children, Eva, Ana Lucia, and Wynn.
